The XUV500 was a big hit in the Indian market when it was first launched. The bookings for the SUV were so much that Mahindra had to make out a lottery system. Now, the homegrown manufacturer is working on a new generation of the SUV which has been codenamed W601. Well, now Mahindra has revealed the official name of the new SUV and it will be called the XUV 700. The XUV 700 will be launching between the Q2 and Q3 of 2021. The SUV should be here in the Indian market before 2021 Diwali.

The new SUV is based on a new design but carries few characteristics that we have seen on the current XUV500. So, the aggressive front-end design and the haunches on the rear wheel arches are expected to be still there on the XUV 700. At the front, there will be LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED headlamps. Interestingly, the new-gen SUV has been spied with two headlamp design. One is a more conventional single-piece unit while the second one integrated with an L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamp. It still gets Mahindra’s 6 vertical slat grille and a wide air dam in the lower half of the bumper.

The side profile will have flush-fitting door handles which is a first for a vehicle of this segment. The current XUV500 was also the first SUV to come with vertical door handles that Mahindra said were inspired by Cheetah’s claw. There are also prominent wheel arches which are expected to come with plastic cladding to emphasise the SUV quotient of the XUV 700. It also gets some newly designed 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The rear is quite upright with a high-mounted stop lamp, LED tail lamps and a rear wiper with a washer. The SUV might also come with roof rails and it will come with a shark-fin antenna. The SUV will be fitted with one of the largest panoramic sunroofs that have ever been fitted to this segment. The panoramic sunroof will help in letting in a lot of light which will ensure that the cabin does not feel claustrophobic for the occupants.

The interior will also be a big step up from the current generation of XUV500. It will get soft-touch materials all around and will come with dual-tone beige and black upholstery. For the higher variant, the steering wheel and the gear lever will be wrapped in leather and there will also be leather upholstery. on offer.

 

The XUV500 was one of the most equipped vehicles when it was first launched in the Indian market. The XUV 700 is also expected to do the same. It will come with cruise control, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, traction control, stability program, hill hold assist, hill descent control, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror and a lot more. Mahindra will be using dual horizontal screens as we have seen on the Mercedes-Benz models. The centre one will be a touchscreen infotainment system which will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while the second screen will be for the digital driver’s display.

Powering the XUV 700 is expected to be the 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It is unlikely that Mahindra offers an all-wheel-drive variant this time around. We would just have to wait for the official announcement to confirm this.
