Mumbai, Apr 8 (UNI) National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday recorded the statement of former police officer Pradeep Sharma in connection with the case of an explosives-laden SUV found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence here and the subsequent death of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran.
Sharma appeared before NIA for the second day today. On Wednesday, he was questioned for over seven hours.
According to sources, the former police officer was confronted with suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze and two other people who were arrested earlier by NIA in connection with its probe into these cases.
Vaze had named Sharma in his confession, in which he reportedly stated that Sharma had helped him procure the gelatin sticks that were planted in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) found near Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s residence.
Vaze also told the central agency that he had met Sharma on March 3 and 4.
Moreover, Sharma used to be a trusted officer of former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, when the latter headed the Thane police.
Based upon this, Sharma was summoned and his statement was recorded and he was being questioned.
Before taking voluntary retirement, Sharma had headed the anti-extortion cell of the Thane Crime Branch.
Thereafter, he unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Assembly election from Nalasopara in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
