01/15My COVID Story: An artist captures her 14-day COVID isolation experience in a series of sketches!
Chandigarh-based Neenu Vij emerged from 14 days of isolation, imagining herself as a sparrow in captivity and came up with a series of sketches - each depicting one day of isolation. She created the character of Nenrrow and these strips of sketches helped her keep her spirits high even during the low phase.
02/15Day 1: Expect the unexpected
I was a free bird till I was hit by the virus. It was a real breaking (heart) news as I had planned a number of events in coming days.
03/15Day 2: The Cage
In my own house I was in isolation on the first floor. The beautiful park view couldn’t provide a solace as I was still under the shock. With low grade fever and body aches, food kept outside, a line of instructions, it was like staying in a cage.
04/15Day 3: How could I get?
I was super conscious of precautions, masks, sanitizer etc because of a visiting ailing relative. I was advising people to follow all, then how could I get? I was in depressive and frustrating mood, didn’t like to eat anything or talk to anyone.
05/15Day 4
Health department, Government Dispensary, DC office, I was getting constant calls to check my oxygen levels, Blood Pressure, fever and had send it to them. Also had to answer a number of questions each time. Received a medicine kit too from them.
06/15Day 5: Keeping the Faith
By day 5, I accepted the situation and looked around and had already started counting the blessings.
07/15Day 6: Let the world know
Actually the world should know on day one but here I went on social media to say things like, ‘Hey how come you don’t know 'or' I have also landed in your boat'. That got me lot of good wishes and love from people. It mattered.
08/15Day 7: Books are the best friends
I asked for books, spiritual and the ones recommended by my book clubs. Eating fruits, reading books, video callings, it wasn’t a nightmare anymore.
09/15Day 8: The birth of Nenrrow
I was doodling, reading, writing poetry. But then somehow one day found the whole situation comic. I kept thinking about my situation and started my ever first cartoons, experimented with a few imaginary characters till I decided to create Nenrrow - Neenu + Sparrow.
10/15Day 9: Holi colours on special Thali
It was Holi and my sister who was constantly sending meals, made a special lunch with poori, chanas, meethe chawal and a number of side dishes. I was too full and just lazed around whole day.
11/15Day 10: Yoga se hi Hoga
I rejoined my online yoga class. Though I wasn’t feeling fit or energetic to do all the asanas but it surely helped.
12/15Day 11: Always in gratitude
The whole world got affected, a lot of people severely - I was alive and recovering. Each moment was a moment of gratitude. My meditation duration was affected but I just kept saying Thank you God!!
13/15Day 12: This too shall pass
The feeling of the isolation period coming to an end was exciting. There was still some issues of weakness and mood swings but generally it was fine!
14/15Day 13: Life is beautiful
To avoid clutter and work I was literally living in two sets of clothes. So day 13 passed quickly by looking after myself, getting ready for ‘grand entry’ back in home.
15/15Day 14: Corona - Karo Na - Wear Mask
By late evening I was finally ready to come out of isolation which gave me enough time to do a lot of introspection and promises which I made to myself. Health is no doubt the actual Wealth!
