While Srikakulam district recorded 19.32 per cent polling, Vijayanagaram recorded 25.68 per cent, Visakhapatnam 24.14 per cent, East Godavari 25.00 per cent, PG district 23.40 per cent, Krishna district 19.29 per cent, Guntur 15.85 per cent, Prakasam 15.05 per cent, Nellore 20.59 per cent, Kurnool 25.96 per cent, Anantapur 22.88 per cent, YSR district 19.72 per cent and Chittoor 24.52 per cent. Earlier today, the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has ordered re-polling in Ponugodu of AS peta constituency. A controversy erupted after a BJP agent named Prasad picked up the ballot box and threw it in a water tank. Prasad, who is on the run, pushed the officers who tried to stop him and threw the box. Earlier, a clash was reported between Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena workers and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP party workers in Mamidikuduru area. According to reports, Jana Sena workers were allegedly distributing cash to which YSRCP party workers objected. This led to a clash in which workers of both parties sustained injuries. Voting is underway for 7,220 territorial constituencies of Mandals and 515 constituencies of Zila Parishads of Andhra Pradesh under strict security arrangements. About 2.5 crore voters are eligible to vote in the elections for 7,220 MPTCs (Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies) and 515 ZPTCs (Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies) spread across 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. According to the Election Commission, 2,371 MPTCs and 126 ZPTCs had already won uncontested in the election process that began last year in March but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 18,782 candidates are in the fray for Mandal constituencies and 2,058 for Zila Parishad constituencies. N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party, the principal opposition party in Andhra, has already announced that it would boycott the Parishad elections. It had said that the elections are being conducted in an undemocratic manner.
