KOLHAPUR: Kolhapur collector Daulat Desai has ordered roll back of the order directing all people entering the district for temporary as well as permanent stay to carry RT-PCR negative reports with them.
The revised order was issued at 8 pm on Tuesday. Desai stated that the decision has been taken considering the request made by local public representatives.
In the revised order, Desai has stated, “Citizens would have faced inconvenience due to the previous order, therefore, the earlier order stands withdrawn. However, as per current guidelines of the state government, swabs of people arriving in the district will be collected for testing and also the quarantine policy will remain in place.”
The earlier order made it mandatory for people arriving from outside the district or travelling from one place to another within the district borders for temporary or permanent stay to carry negative RT-PCR test reports. Also, in case of lack of the test report, the person concerned was expected to have taken both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
Also, due to the earlier order, the district administration faced severe criticism from people on social media with many voicing their concerns. For instance, the candidates appearing for Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exam scheduled for Sunday claimed that the order is an obstacle for them as they will face difficulties in travelling to exam centres. Many also raised concern about being unnecessarily harassed by authorities while travelling through the district. However, the district officials were of the view that the order only applies to those travelling for permanent or temporary stay and, most importantly, no entry points of the district will be shut.
