APIndia's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has denied permission to Flydubai to operate the Boeing 737 Max to India or fly it across the Indian airspace, said a person in the know.
Flydubai didn't respond to an emailed query before the story went to press.
The Dubai-based low fare carrier had on Tuesday announced that its Maxes would return to service from today, April 8.
"This follows the airline’s compliance with all of the requirements outlined in the Safety Decision issued by its regulator, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), to ensure the safe return of the aircraft to service," it had said in a release.
Flydubai has a fleet of 14 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft; four of its MAX 8s and one of its MAX 9s have now received regulatory approval to rejoin its fleet.
India is yet to give its approval for airlines to operate the Max, which had globally been grounded for two years followed two deadline air crashes. It has now again taken to the skies in several parts of the world, following approvals of aviation regulators from several countries.
Boeing on Wednesday said 20 airlines across the world have pressed the 737 Max back into service.
