Mumbai sees dip in new covid-19 cases with 8,938 infections, 750 buildings sealed

Mumbai on Thursday reported 8,938 new Covid-19 cases, a slight dip from Wednesday's single-day tally, which was 10,428,the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
According to the civic body, as 4,503 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, the recovery count went up to 3,92,514.

According to the BMC data, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Mumbai is 86,279 now.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in Mumbai has gone down to 80%, the BMC said, adding that the overall growth rate has worsened to 2.03% and the doubling rate has dropped to 33 days.
There are 71 active containment zones in the city, where 750 buildings have been sealed to curb the spread of the virus.
As many as 48,902 more COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the number of samples examined so far to 44,54,140, the civic body said.

Dharavi sees highest ever spike of 99 COVID-19 cases
In a matter of concern, Mumbai's Dharavi area recorded its highest ever daily spike of 99 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
Earlier, the locality had recorded 94 infections on May 3, 2020.
With the addition of the latest cases, the tally in the slum dominated area has risen to 5,474, the official said, adding that there are now 913 active cases in the locality.
The first coronavirus case in Dharavi was reported on April 1, 2020, nearly 20 days after the first patient was found in Mumbai on March 11, 2020.
Spread over 2.5 sq km, Dharavi is considered as Asia's largest slum with a population of over 6.5 lakh.
