CJI Bobde holds scheduled Collegium meet

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde on Thursday chosen not to cancel the scheduled meeting of the collegium on Thursday for recommending names of judges in the higher judiciary.
However, it remained inconclusive, sources said.
Notably, the notification for the appointment of justice NV Ramana as the next CJI had come through two days ago.
CJI Bobde will retire on April 23.
In the meantime, there were media reports about some of the persons from the judiciary who were not favoring the meeting after the appointment of the next CJI.
According to them, once President appoints CJI-designate, all files get routed through the next CJI and the incumbent CJI refrains from holding Collegium meetings to recommend the appointment of Judges.
Earlier in the day, the incumbent CJI had said that he can call the Collegium meeting, terming it as routine work, in which the decisions taken related to important issues regarding the judiciary.
President Ram Nath Kovind had officially appointed justice Ramana as the CJI with effect from April 24, some of the judges in the top court were of the view that the meeting of the collegium for discussing the names for appointment to the apex court may not take place.
