Complainants attacked inside police station

Two persons sustained injuries
BALASORE: Two persons who had gone to Remuna police station in Balasore district to lodge a complaint sustained critical injuries after they were allegedly attacked by a group of people inside the police station.
Reports claimed that around 11 pm on Tuesday Raghunath Sahu and his wife Pramita Das had gone to the police station to file a complaint after their house at Miabag village had been ransacked.
In the meantime, around 150 people barged into the station and attacked the duo with sharp weapons in the presence of the police. The mob also resorted to vandalism inside the police station. The injured were admitted to Remuna health centre and later shifted to Balasore Medical College and Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
Sriballav Sahu, inspector in-charge of Remuna police station, said, “Some people first reached the police station alleging that their houses were ransacked by a rival group. We were about to visit their village for an inquiry when around 150 people suddenly arrived. By the time we could close the gate some 20-30 people had barged into the police station and attacked the complainants, leaving them critically injured.”
Sources said the attack was a fallout of previous enmity between two groups — one from Mandarpur and another from Miabag area — under the same police station limits.
Nilagiri SDPO Ritesh Kumar Mohapatra said, “Based on CCTV footage, a team of police has launched a search operation to nab the accused. Very soon the accused will be behind bars.”
