Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday asked the Nalgonda collector, Prashanth J. Patil, to do two hours of social service at the orphanage on weekends as punishment for contempt of court. He has to spend six months on weekends for two hours.
The court also said that the report certified by the orphanage officers and district chief justice of the district should be completed by October 30. The report should consist of the number of hours spent at the orphanage, along with dates, the court ordered.
Meanwhile, the retired district supply officer, Sandhya Rani, has been instructed to provide food for prisoners from any of the orphanages located within a 10km radius of his residence. She should arrange the food on the upcoming Ugadi and Sriramanavami, the court added.
What was the case?
In 2015, a rice mill owner from Parvathagiri, Warangal district, filed a petition against revenue officials for not allocating paddy to his mill. After hearing the case, the court accepted an order in favor of the mill owner and asked the officials to deliver rice to the mill.
Later, the mill owner approached the court, claiming that the officials had not complied with the order. The court found Patil, the then joint collector, civilian supplies, Warangal district and Sandhya Rani guilty of contempt, imposed the fine of Rs. 2000 elk.
When the officers appealed to the court, Judge Hima Kohli and Judge B. Vijaysen Reddy asked them to do social work to avoid punishment.
