CHANDIGARH: The surge in novel coronavirus cases has prompted UT administrator V P Singh Badnore to announce night curfew in the city from 10pm to 5am from Wednesday.
No gatherings, parties and non-essential activities will be allowed during the period, according to the order issued on Tuesday during a meeting to review the Covid situation that has worsened over the days with cases climbing daily – the city on Tuesday recorded 319 new cases.
Badnore directed the police authorities to ensure strict implementation of night curfew that will require restaurants to shut by10pm.
During the meeting, Arun Kumar Gupta, principal secretary, health, said the city has 75 micro-containment zones. K K Yadav, commissioner, municipal corporation (MC) said 52 teams have been constituted to conduct sanitation operations in various parts of the city. He said 15 contacts of a positive patient are being traced.
Mandip Brar, deputy commissioner, said 28 new microcontainment zones have been notified and challaning intensified to ensure Covid-appropriate behaviour.
Badnore appealed to market associations to ensure staff engaged by them are tested and vaccinated. He appealed to citizens to take advantage of the facility being provided by the health department to all residents above 45 years of age to get themselves vaccinated. A walk-in facility has been provided at Sector 16 hospital and three civil hospitals in sectors 22, 45 and Manimajra for free Covid tests, Badnore said.
