States »EasPosted at: Apr 7 2021 6:25PM Guwahati, Apr 7 (UNI) The third and final phase of the Assam Assembly elections, recorded the highest voter turnout of 82.29% compared to two other phases in the assembly elections.
Nearly 81 per cent of the 73, 44,631 voters exercised their franchise in the second phase across 39 constituencies on April 1, the Election Commission said.
Around 80 per cent of 81, 09,815 voters cast their votes on March 27 in the first phase in 47 constituencies.
The third phase of the election which was held in 40 constituencies spread across 12 districts was largely peaceful except for a few sporadic incidents of violence.
The highest turnout in the third was recorded in minority-dominated areas.
In Assam, the South Shalmara district recorded the highest turnout of 89.49 per cent at the time of polling.
This is followed by Dhubri, which is another minority-dominated district, recorded 89.20 per cent turnout, and Bilasipara, registered a turnout of 87.07 per cent.
Turnout in the four seats in Guwahati–Jalukbari, Dispur, East Guwahati and West Guwahati, recorded low compared to the minority-dominated seats.
