This yesteryear superstar is not only famous for his white clothes, but also is famous for his dancing skills. This ‘Jumping Jack’ of Bollywood was even awarded a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 and Screen Lifetime Award in 2006.
Father to Ekta Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor, Jeetendra was born as Ravi Kapoor in Punjab’s Amritsar.
But how did Ravi Kapoor become Jeetendra and why is he called the Jumping Jack of Bollywood?
When Ravi Kapoor was to debut from his first film, he was suggested to change his name and Ravindar Kapoor was finally suggested to him; though he adopted Jeetendra for his screen name. This dancing hero is called Jumping Jack because of his highly energetic performances on his songs. Jeetendra’s performance in his songs like, Naino mein sapna (Himmatwala), Taki o Taki (Himmatwala) and Dhal Gaya Din (Humjoli), better define his energy.
Apart from his energy, Jeetendra once had set the fashion trend of white clothes paired with white shoes. When asked about it, the yesteryear superstar on a TV set confessed that it was because dark clothes made him look shorter.
Jeetendra has given several superhit films and Aadmi Khilona Hai(1993), Tohfa(1984), Haisiyat (1984), Mera Saathi(1985) and Parichay(1972) are some of them. The actor’s on screen pairing with Sridevi was most loved, though he married his childhood sweetheart and mother of Tusshar and Ekta Kapoor, Shobha.
