Hyderabad: The second wave of Covid-19 came to our doors unannounced and caught people off guard, with the number of cases increasing rapidly. If every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of residents, various housing associations, orphanages and old age homes will once again close their gates to visitors.
M Ravinder, an association member of Vista Home near ECIL, said although they have not yet imposed any restrictions, the colony association is all prepared. ‘We plan to reinstall the measures we took last year. The temperature of all visitors will be checked and the decontamination of the whole colony will be recorded regularly. “These practices were stopped in December, but if we look at the situation, we plan to implement the measures again,” he said.
Isidore Phillips, director of Divya Disha, an orphanage that currently houses 27 boys and 24 girls, said during the first wave of the pandemic, the house was virtually sealed off to outsiders. According to the precautions they took, he said: ‘We have ensured that the children take social distance and that they are not allowed outside the premises. A doctor also visited the center every week and we also disinfected the building regularly. ‘
Elderly people are worst affected during the pandemic, and therefore it is becoming more important for nursing homes to take precautions against the virus. Smiles, a nursing home in Medchal, takes no chances with the health of the elderly.
Lakshmi Prasad Gowra, a trustee of Smiles, said the safety of all residents is ensured. “Smile can accommodate about 200 people, but at the moment we only have 50 residents. Just like last year, our visitors have already been prevented from entering the premises. Only the doctors come to visit regularly. We have one manager who goes out once a month for all groceries and medicine. “All other plans, including the organization of entertainment events for the residents, have been abandoned for the time being,” he said.
