Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb tests positive for Covid-19
First case of any VIP testing positive for the virus in the second wave of the COVID-19 in the country.

On Wednesday, April 7, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tested positive for COVID-19. The Tripura CM tweeted from his official Twitter handle, “I have been tested positive for Covid-19. I have isolated myself at home as per the advice of doctors. I request everyone to please follow all the Covid appropriate behaviour and stay safe.”

This news came barely three days after the Tripura government took initiatives and issued guidelines with certain restrictions following the second wave of the COVID-19 accross the country.
This is the first case of any VIP testing positive for the virus in the second wave of the COVID-19. Recently, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had been in between the crowd campaigning for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections which underwent voting on Tuesday, April 6.
On April 6, on the occasion of the celebration of BJP’s foundation day, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, and many others leaders of party joined the mega programme in front of Tripura University.
India recorded over 1.15 lakh new COVID cases in the last 24 hours for first time since the beginning of the pandemic, setting an unprecedented, grim record during the second wave. 630 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Eight States account for 84.44% of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties of 297. Punjab follows with 61 daily deaths.
