Tripura CM tested Covid positive, fear grips the state

Agartala, Apr 7 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb this morning announced that he has been tested positive for Covid-19. Last year, three of his family members were found tested positive but he was safe.

Deb in his Facebook wrote, “I have been tested positive for Covid-19

and I have isolated myself at home as per the advice of doctors. I

request everyone to please follow all the Covid appropriate behaviour

and stay safe.”

Panic gripped the state with the announcement of Chief Minister, as he

had attended a large number of election rallies in the past few days

across the state for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council

(ADC) elections and closely interacted with thousands of people

including all top bureaucrats in the civil secretariat and security

personnel.

Yesterday, he had also joined a mega programme in front of Tripura

University on the occasion of the celebration of BJP’s foundation day

along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, MLA Ramprasad Pal

and many other leaders of the party.

Allegedly, in the election rallies, Chief Minister was seen closely

interacting with the party supporters and citizens without wearing

proper mask and several media reports criticising such activities of

CM was published requesting him to maintain Covid safety protocol but

those didn’t work.

With the second wave of Covid-19, so far 54 positive cases reported in

the state in last four days and the state administration has issued

alert and guidelines including panel provisions for any violation. No

political leaders including Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues

did follow the guidelines that increased the risk in manifolds.

According to report, second-time infection of Covid-19 has also been

found in the state.
