CHANDIGARH: In view of increasing demand for warehousing from e-commerce companies, Haryana Enterprise Promotion Board (HEPB) on Tuesday approved allotment of 140 acres of land of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) to the Flipkart Group for setting up their largest “fulfilling centre” in Asia.
The centre will have a covered area of 3 million square feet in Patli Hajipur, Manesar.
The approval was granted in the 10th meeting of the board held under the chairmanship of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala and education minister Kanwar Pal were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the CM was informed that the land was allotted at the price of Rs 3.22 crore per acre to Instakart Services (a Flipkart group company) and it will not only give impetus to investment in the region but also boost market access opportunities for lakhs of MSMEs and sellers from Haryana and north Indian region. Going by the Rs 3.22 crore price, the land had been allotted for around Rs 450 crore.
Representatives of Flipkart Group said that Instakart planned to set up a series of fulfillment centres and associated logistics infrastructure across India to enable market growth. To attain this goal, the company aims to provide best-in-class service to customers and is, thus, planning to construct regional distribution centres (RDC) across the country to strengthen its network capability to service customers.
The company is planning to build a logistics campus in the national capital region, in proximity to Gurgaon. They intend to build a campus spread over an area of 140 acres to cater to demand in north India. This fulfillment centre will essentially cater to parcel and white goods and furniture, he added. He claimed that approximately 6,000 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs will be created through this investment.
