PANAJI: The Goa University (GU) has told affiliated colleges that due to the pandemic, students will be permitted to appear for improvement of grades in the succeeding semester or year or through supplementary exam. The provision is as per the special ordinance introduced to provide concessions specific to the pandemic period.
The subsequent attempts by students to improve their grades will not be considered as second attempts, the GU circular stated.
“As a special provision for the examinations of the courses taught during the semester overlapping with Covid-19 pandemic, students are permitted to appear for the improvement of the grade in the succeeding semester/year or through supplementary examinations,” the circular issued by Goa University officiating registrar Radhika Nayak stated.
The syllabus considered for the examination during ensuing semester-end examination shall be considered.
“Consequently, the performance of students in all subsequent appearances during the operation of the special ordinance OS-1 shall not be considered as an additional attempt/s,” the circular read.
Goa University had introduced the concession last year for the academic year 2019-20 to help students during the pandemic.
“No student shall be detained from moving to the next semester. However, students who fail after applying the grading scheme shall have to pass the examination for the course(s) which s/he has failed, whenever the examination is held next.
Such students shall also have an opportunity to improve their grades by appearing for the current semester course(s) in the succeeding semester(s) or through supplementary examinations,” the university had said for the last academic year in a circular to affiliated general stream colleges.
The performance of students appearing for improvement of grades will not be considered as an additional attempt, Goa University had stated then, too.
GU had allowed promotion of students of lower semesters based on internal assessments carried out by the colleges, while examinations were conducted only for final year students.
