Author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Jeff Kinney has penned a new book inspired from the scary times we are living in. Titled 'Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories', the new book was released in March 2021.

The author says that the present uncertain and "scary times" inspired him to write the new book. Also, he wanted to try writing short stories for a while. "I also wanted to try writing short stories. I enjoyed doing both things immensely,” he said, according to a PTI report. He also revealed that Stephen King's 'The Shining' was one of the scariest books he has ever read!

The book's blurb reads: Grab a flashlight, crawl under the covers, and dive into the twisted, unexpectedly hilarious world of Rowley Jefferson's imagination. You'll meet zombies, vampires, ghosts, and much more in these comically terrifying tales. Rowley's spooky stories might leave you laughing, but beware-you could end up sleeping with the lights on!

On being asked about his favourite book which he has reread many times, Kinney also told PTI that 'Schulz and Peanuts' by David Michaelis helped him "understand the possibilities" of being a writer.

Published by Puffin, 'Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories' is aimed at children aged 7-14 years.
