Delhi riots: HC seeks responses of Centre, Delhi govt on plea seeking compensation of damages

New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought responses from the Centre and Delhi government on a petition filed by a claimant, whose rented shop destroyed during the riots broke out in the national capital in February last year.

The bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh asked to respond the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) on the petitioner Sayeed Ahmed Khan's plea.

The plea contended that the petitioner's rented shop in Shiv Vihar was looted, burnt and destroyed. He suffered a lose of over Rs 5 lakh, it added.

The court posted the matter for further hearing on April 26 with a batch of other similar matters.

Communal clashes had broken out in north-east Delhi on February 24, 2020, after violence between citizenship law supporters and protesters spiraled out of control leaving at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured.
