Embarrassed to invite guests because of bad roads, say locals at Telibagh in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: They may be on the outskirts of the city but the localities of Telibagh, Mohanlalganj and adjacent areas are among the busiest. Thousands of commuters use these routes daily as the premier medical institute SGPGI is located here and many housing societies have also come up in the vicinity.
However, locals say that travelling through these roads is a harrowing experience.
TOI recently visited some of these areas near Rae Bareli Road to take stock of the situation and ask locals about their misery of damaged roads.

On Rae Bareli Road, a stretch going towards Govardhan Enclave and Vrindavan Yojana was found battered and dust-laden.
“All roads here are in the same condition. We feel embarrassed to invite someone to our place as some of my guests have joked about the pathetic condition of the roads,” said Rajat Nigam, a resident.
Resident of Eldeco Ashray colony near SGPGI Priyanka Verma said, “My family shifted to this locality in 2012. Since then, the condition of roads has not changed. What’s worse is there are no streetlights either. Commuting at night is a nightmare for us.”
In Mohanlalganj, gravel was found scattered on a stretch leading towards a market.
“I avoid taking this route at night as the bike skids through gravel. I had once lost control on the bike and ended up falling on the road. Thankfully, I did not face any serious injuries,” said Sarvesh Kumar, a resident.
A similar situation was found in Telibagh, as several large potholes were seen near a railway crossing.
“I have no choice but to use this route as this directly leads to my home. I have to bear bumpy rides daily. There are frequent jams on the stretch as half of the road is filled with potholes,” said Varun Jha, a resident.
