CHENNAI: A Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) assistant engineer was found hanging from the ceiling at his office in Kannagi Nagar on Monday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Neelakandan of Sembakkam near Tambaram, was alone in the office when the incident happened, police said. His colleagues went out briefly for work.
When they returned they didn’t see Neelakandan in the office. One of his colleagues, Selvam, checked his room and found it locked from inside.
When Selvam peeped through the window of the room he saw Neelakandan hanging from the ceiling.
He alerted a colleague, Saranraj, who, in turn, informed the police control room.
A team from the Kannagi Nagar station went to the spot and sent the body to the Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered, and investigation is on to ascertain the cause of death.
Neelankandan is survived by his wife and their three sons, who live in Selaiyur near Tambaram. Police said Neelankandan, a diploma holder, joined the electricity department as an assistant in 1987 and was later promoted as assistant engineer.
