CHANDIGARH: The seven day average total positivity rate in the city was13.5% until April 4, which is almost the same as reported till March 30. Weekly average daily growth too stands at 1.06%, while the national average is 0.64%.
Tests per million in a day have crossed from 2,118 on April 3 to 2,402 on April 4. But there has been a death daily on an average, which was not happening before March 17. April has seen four deaths since the past five days.
“It has been 20 days since the peak started. As there is an incubation period of 14 days, it is expected to come down gradually now,” said a public health expert. The testing has been enhanced and there are daily over 2,000 tests being conducted. Chandigarh stands at the third slot after Maharashtra and Chhatisgarh in weekly total positivity rate. The national average is 7.7%.
In the last five days, 1,223 cases have been reported, which were 277 in the first five days during March. “As the second wave has more cases and deaths, testing should be enhanced further. This will result in better isolation and treatment,” said a public health expert.
The recovery rate is 88%, as 25,033 patients have been cured till date out of 28,479 confirmed cases. But the active cases have been increasing despite the growth in the daily discharge count.
