Whenever a social media platform starts to get enough traction, it is natural to explore monetization options so that both itself and popular creators on the network can earn money. Clubhouse, a well-known audio-only social media, revealed its monetization ambitions last month and has now introduced the first option called Clubhouse Payments.

Clubhouse Payments is a way for users to tip their favorite creators on the platform. It is similar to what we have seen on other networks like YouTube, Twitch, and OnlyFans. Some platforms also let users get exclusive virtual goodies in exchange for the money they spend but with Clubhouse, it is only the payment for the time being.

The monetization feature is rolling out in waves and only select creators and users will get access. If you are on the profile of a creator who has the feature enabled, you will see a new "Send Money" option at the bottom. The next step is to enter the desired amount that you want to send and that's it. The users will have to add a debit or credit card to their account before they can send their first payments.

The major difference between Clubhouse and other platforms with monetization options is that the former will not be taking any cut from the payments. It says complete payment will be sent to the creator and while there will be standard card processing fees, all of it will be given to its payment processing partner Stripe.

Clubhouse is also exploring other ways of helping creators grow their reach and earn revenue at the same time. It is currently an invite-only app limited to iOS devices but developers have begun working on an Android counterpart. We will let you know as and when the app becomes available on Android.
