Mukhtar Ansari to be handed over to UP cops today

The BSP MLA from Mau in Uttar Pradesh is at present lodged in Ropar jail
CHANDIGARH: Dreaded gangster and MLA Mukhtar Ansari would be handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday, in compliance with the Supreme Court directions. The BSP MLA from Mau in Uttar Pradesh is at present lodged in Ropar jail.
Punjab’s prison minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said Ansari would not be given any special treatment and he would be handed over to the Uttar Pradesh police like other criminals. He, however, did not say why the gangster was kept in Punjab jails for two years and the UP government had to move to the Supreme Court to get his custody even though he faces several cases there.
Asked about the controversial ambulance used to ferry the BSP MLA from Ropar jail to Mohali court recently, Randhawa said the prisons department had nothing to do with the ambulance and the questions can be answered by the home department or the Ropar SSP, whose police party had ferried Ansari in the ambulance.
The ambulance, bearing registration number UP AT 7171, was found abandoned by Punjab Police from Manali road in Ropar district on Sunday. The Ropar police had taken custody of the ambulance under section 102 of the CrPC.
Though a team, led by a DSP rank officer from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, reached Ropar jail on Sunday to take back the ambulance but now it could only get the vehicle from the Ropar court on Tuesday.
The Barabanki police had registered an FIR in the case after the use of ambulance came into light. An FIR registered against one Dr Alka Rai for registering the ambulance using fake documents.
A team of over 50 cops, ledby Prayagraj zone additional director general of police (ADGP) Prem Prakash, left for Ropar on Monday in a convoy of vehicles, including an ambulance, to ferry Ansari to Banda jail. The team would reach Ropar on Tuesday. Ansari is facing various criminal cases in UP.
