NOIDA: The city officially reported its first Covid
death in three months on Monday when an 85-year-old woman, a resident of Greater Noida west, passed away of complications related to the novel coronavirus infection.
The last
Covid death officially reported in Gautam Budh Nagar was on January 5. On Monday, the district also reported its highest daily Covid case tally this year (97). The last time the city saw a higher tally was on December 11 last year when it recorded 100 cases.
According to chief medical officer Dr Deepak Ohri, the woman who passed away was undergoing treatment in Delhi where, after showing symptoms, she got tested at Mahajan Diagnostic Centre. “She tested positive but remained at home for the past two-three days and did not inform the district health department. On Monday, she could not get up and expired. She lived with her son, daughter-in-law and a grandson. The son and daughter-in-law have also tested positive and they too had not informed us about their condition while the grandson is negative. We sent the body to the Sector 94 crematorium and will admit the son and daughter-in-law at Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) on Tuesday as they had some cremation related rituals to conclude,” Dr Ohri told TOI. The family lives in a housing society in Sector 1 of Greater Noida west.
Dr Ohri added that timely information about her condition was crucial. “An 85-year-old woman should not remain at home after testing positive for Covid. Secondly, the family did not inform about their condition. People are requested to inform the health department if they have tested positive and the test has been done outside the district so that necessary measures can be taken for their treatment and recovery,” he said.
The rapid response team visited the residence of the family only on Monday after being informed by the society's apartment owners association (AOA).
Brigadier Dr RK Gupta (retd), director of GIMS, said “This is a full-blown second wave with many cases coming in serious condition. We have a total of 70 patients admitted right now with about 10-12 on oxygen support and on HFNO (high-flow nasal oxygen) support.”
On Monday, GB Nagar reported 36 recoveries. The total number of confirmed cases stood at 26,481. With 92 deaths, the case fatality ratio is 0.34%.
Neighbouring Ghaziabad recorded 46 new cases on Monday, taking the district's overall caseload rose to 27,558. A total of 26 patients were discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday after recovery. Altogether, 27,055 patients have recovered in the district. The recovery rate of Ghaziabad stands at 98.3% while the case fatality rate is 0.4%.
