KCR releases water from Kondapochamma Sagar in Haldi Vagu

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Sri K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) on Tuesday released Godavari water from the Kondapochamma Sagar in Haldi Vagu at Avusulapalli in Wargan Mandal from the Siddipet district.

Under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), the Telangana government’s ambitious project, water from Kaleswaram, which had already reached the Mid-Maner Dam of Medigadda (the starting point of the KLS), was flown into Kondapochamma Sagar.

Later, Konda PochammaSagar water was released to Gajwel Canal to fill 20 tanks in the Siddipet district. KCR, which reached Avusulapalli, received the traditional Purnakumba reception by priests. Chandrashekhar Rao was accompanied by Speakes P. Srinivas Reddy, Minister of Finance, T Harish Rao, Minister of Roads and Buildings V Prashant Reddy, and others.

Before the prime minister released the water into the canal, he staged special pujas to the Godavari River. Amid cheers and slogans by the locals, he released the water into the canal. According to a report by Telangana Today, 1,600 sectors will be released into the canal and it will take ten days before the water reaches the Nizam Sagar project. The water will make Haldi Vagu and Manjeera flow even during the middle of summer.

As the Nizam Sagar project is downstream, the water will help farmers irrigate more than 14,000 hectares along the way. After covering about 70 km, Haldi Vagu will merge with the Manjeera River.
