Kalaburagi, Apr 6 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, who also holds Transport Ministry, on Tuesday reiterated his appeal to KSRTC employees not to go ahead with their indefinite agitation from Wednesday as the State government cannot take a decision on their demand for pay hike as Model Code of Conduct is in force and also due to corona crisis
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Savadi said that the transport employees should understand the situation and drop their scheduled April 7 indefinite strike. "The government lost Rs 7 crore when the employees went on a four-day strike earlier and it will lose Rs 2 crore a day if they go on agitation again. Moreover people, especially students have to face hardship," he said.
The Deputy CM stated that the employees’ demand may be justified, but not the timing. They have to understand the situation because of Covid and cooperate with the government. This year, we had to take the highest loan ever because of a shortfall in revenues.
The election code is not an excuse and the government is thinking of increasing their salaries. It will be done after getting the go-ahead from the Election Commission, he added.
