LUCKNOW/JHANSI: A contingent of Uttar Pradesh Police (UPP) that reached Ropar jail on Tuesday morning took jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari into custody to bring him back to Uttar Pradesh.
The police contingent accompanying Mukhtar is likely to reach Banda jail by Wednesday morning.
Senior police officials privy to the development said that the convoy carrying Mukhtar Ansari headed from Ropar to Ambala cantonment towards Kurukshetra and via Sonipat taking eastern peripheral and then entering Uttar Pradesh.
Further taking the Agra-Expressway, the convoy will reach Etawah then Auraiya and finally move towards Banda.
The official also added that the length of 900 km has to be covered by the team and three brief stoppages have been decided after every 300 km.
Mukhtar Ansari has been accommodated with his wheelchair in the ambulance which is being escorted by six police vehicles, and a Vajra Vahan.
In Banda security arrangements are well in place around the jail compound while police have been put on high alert in three adjoining districts — Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Mahoba.
