Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual interaction with chief ministers on Thursday evening to evaluate Covid-19 and progress in vaccination, amid growing concerns over new cases which crossed a lakh.
A similar meet was held on March 17, when the PM asked CMs to ensure that a second peak does not occur. Modi had laid emphasis on more RT-PCR testing and preventing wastage of vaccines in the meeting. There has been a jump in Covid-19 cases since. The recovery rate on March 17 was 96%, but the death rate has gone up now. Some states have also reported vaccine shortage.
Modi chaired a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, his principal secretary, home secretary, health secretary and other senior officials on Sunday. The meeting noted that 91% of reported cases were confined to 10 states, with Maharashtra worst hit. It has contributed to 57% of cases and 47% of deaths. The situation in Punjab and Chhattisgarh is also of concern. The Centre has decided to send a team of medical experts to the three states.
