NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday appointed two special judges to expeditiously complete trials in 41 pending cases in the illegal coal block allotment scandal, which had rocked the UPA-2 government headed by Manmohan Singh in 2014, reports Dhananjay Mahapatra.
Coal block allocation scam cases were brought to light by a PIL filed by advocate M L Sharma and during which the SC had chastised the CBI for being a “caged parrot” ostensibly for the then CBI director rushing to the then law minister to vet the probe status report prior to its submission before an SC bench headed by Justice R M Lodha.
As many as 56 cases were sent for trial after the CBI investigated wrongful allocations and these were tried by special judge Bharat Parashar.
