CM changed stance on Sabarimala fearing public revenge : Oommen Chandy

Kottayam, Apr 6 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Oomman Chandy on Tuesday said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has surprised him by changing his stance over women entry issue at the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, on the day of election.
Mr Vijayan had filed a counter affidavit against the affidavit filed by UDF in the Supreme Court to uphold the traditions and faith in Sabarimala temple, Mr Chandy told mediapersons after casting his vote in Puthuppally here.
However, today the Chief Minister took a U-turn by stating that his government was ''not opposed'' over the entry of women into the temple fearing the public.
The former Chief Minister said the CPI(M) had supported the women entry, between the age of 10 and 50 years, into the temple in the Apex Court and welcomed its 2018 verdict which supported the government's stance.
The CPI(M) said that the government had the liability to implement the verdict. Such a person (CM) changed the stance which shocked me on the day of election, Mr Chandy said.
The Assembly election in Kerala had added vigour to the Congress at the National level, he added.
