Apr. 5—David J. Rossi

TREMONT — A man who led state police on a chase while being in possession of an illegal firearm on March 10 had charges against him held for court during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi.

Daniel T. Langtry, 32, of 233 W. Main St., Tremont, was arrested by state police Trooper Kyle Brands of the Schuylkill Haven station and charged with felony possession of a firearm prohibited and fleeing or attempting to elude police and summary offenses of reckless driving, disregard for single traffic lane, failure to signal, driving at an unsafe speed, obedience to traffic control signals, following too closely, improper passing, depositing waste on a highway, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without a valid inspection.

Rossi determined prosecutors presented evidence to substantiate the charges and ordered all offenses against Langtry held for Schuylkill County Court, where he can plead guilty or enter a not guilty plea and request a trial.

The charges are the result of an incident that began around 5:40 p.m. at Tremont and Spittler roads.

Brands said he tried to pull over a vehicle driven by Langtry for traffic and equipment violations but the man fled and, at one point, drove onto Spruce Drive and through a large field before returning to the roadway.

With police in pursuit, Brands said Langtry continued driving recklessly passing vehicles on Route 125 and then turned onto a dirt road and became stuck in a snow bank.

Langtry again tried to flee but was taken into custody and a black handgun was found sitting on the front passenger's seat of the vehicle, Brands said, adding that a check of the weapon determined it was not loaded.

SHENANDOAH — A Delano man arrested in connection with an assault in Delano Township on Dec. 21 had charges against him held for court during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.

Charles J. Cunningham, 49, of 1 Pine St., Box 81, was arrested by state police Trooper Shawn Tray of the Frackville station and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and institutional vandalism.

Kilker determined prosecutors presented enough evidence to substantiate the charges and ordered all held for Schuylkill County Court, where Cunningham can plead guilty or enter a not guilty plea and request a trial.

Tray said police responded to the Cunningham home for a report of a man yelling in the street. It was there Tray said Cunningham pushed Trooper Anthony Tombasco and then tried to punch him and Trooper Michael Van Buskirk causing Van Buskirk to suffered an injury to his thumb.

When taken back to the Frackville barracks, Tray said, Cunningham kicked and damaged a wall.

TAMAQUA — A Coaldale woman charged by Rush Township police with a theft from the Rent-A-Center waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer.

Brandy R. Reinhart, 40, of 156 Second St., was arrested by Patrolman Melissa Shaffer and charged with one count of theft of leased property and receiving stolen property.

By waiving her right to a hearing, Reinhart will now have to answer to both charges in Schuylkill County Court, where she can plead guilty or enter a not guilty plea and request a trial.

Shaffer charged Reinhart with leasing an Xbox One, a 65-inch Samsung television set and a television stand valued at $1,617.31 and failed to abide by the agreement she entered into to pay for the items.

Shaffer said Rent-A-Center officials said they were unable to contact the woman to rectify the matter and when she tried to call Reinhart the listed telephone number was disconnected.

In paperwork filed with the court, Shaffer said Reinhart failed to pay for or return the items as required.
