Earthquake of magnitude 5.4 strikes Sikkim, tremor felt in neighbouring states; PM takes stock of damage

New Delhi, Apr 05: An Earthquake of magnitude 5.4 near Sikkim-Nepal border on Tuesday. Tremor felt in parts of Assam, Bihar and West Bengal. As per the early inputs, mild earthquake in Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling district felt this evening at 8.50pm.

According to National Center for Seismology the epicentre, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 27.23, 88.84 degrees latitude.

As per initial reports, no loss of lives or damages has been so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking stock of the damage caused by the earthquake in eastern India and has spoken to the chief ministers of Bihar, Assam and Sikkim, government sources said on Monday.

The quake occurred at 8.49 pm at a depth of 10 km near the India-Bhutan border.

"PM Narendra Modi is taking stock of the damage due to the earthquake. He is speaking to chief ministers of all 4 affected states and has already spoken to the CMs of Bihar, Assam and Sikkim," the sources said.
