PATIALA: In an initiative to take care of the helpless and homeless mentally challenged people sitting on the streets, the police in Patiala has launched the campaign ‘Navjivan' on Monday.
Under this series, around seven helpless mentally challenged women and a men were taken to the old age home on Sanour Road in last two days under SP Headquarters Patiala Simrat Kaur and DSP Women and Atrocities and Violence Patiala Bindu Bala.
SSP Patiala Vikram Jeet Duggal, under whose patronage the campaign was launched, met Baba Balbir Singh, the founder of the old age home on Monday and discussed the proper safety and security for women.
Duggal said that this Navjivan campaign has been launched keeping humanity in the forefront. “This special campaign will try to reunite them with the separated families but the main aim of this campaign is to give everyone the right to live a better life. Apart from this, sometimes these mentally challenged people are also physically abused by anti-social elements, which will also be curtailed”, he said, while adding that he had successfully conducted such a campaign during his tenure in Telangana and had reunited many separated families.
Duggal further said that under his auspices, the 'Umeed' project is also being run in which domestic violence, family conflicts and other issues related to women are brought together through the services of legal, psychiatric and social experts. He said every effort is made to increase the closeness of families and to prevent the break-up of relationships. He also appealed to the social organizations and social workers of Patiala city to get involved in this service.
The police on Monday also provided financial assistance to Baba Balbir Singh to help the mentally challenged people. Baba Balbir Singh, Founder of Old Age care center said that for the first time a senior police officer has visited this Ashram which is a matter of pride for us.
