Off-beat destinations and soft adventures in Malaysia will be in the spotlight for most Indian travelers, in place of the common sight-seeing spots with the reopening of leisure travel again.
As per a survey conducted by the Malaysian Tourism Board, Indians, especially youngsters, are waiting to explore off-beat, less crowded destinations of the Southeast Asian country.
Manoharan Periasamy, Senior Director of International Promotion Asia & Africa Division – Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board said that India and Middle East market has been an important source market for Malaysia due to the historical and traditional ties.
“Summer has always been a key Middle East market driver as we receive many travelers during this period whilst the month of May is the peak for Indian tourists,” Periasamy said.. However, over the past year, the pandemic has slowed down the situation.
Periasamy is, however, optimistic about welcoming tourists from India and the Middle East in the coming months when the Covid numbers are brought to restraint. He said that when the borders reopen, Malaysia expects to see an increase in tourists from India and other parts of the region due to revenge traveling. “As per our survey, most of the youngsters then will avoid the conventional sightseeing and main city. The focus is expected to shift to other destinations and soft adventures like diving and snorkeling,” Periasamy said.
Malaysia is updating and training the tour operators based in India on a regular basis. Periasamy said that they will also promote the said destinations and activities consistently when the borders reopen.
