Pulak Roy of Trinamool expected to romp home this time too from his Uluberia Dakshin

Kolkata, Apr 5 (UNI) Facing a three-corner contest, two-time Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Pulak Roy is expected to win this time also from his Uluberia Dakshin seat as he is pitted against veteran Bengali actress and BJP's new horn Papiya Adhikari and All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) nominee Kutubuddin Ahmed.

Uluberia Dakshin is an Assembly constituency in the Howrah district of West Bengal. It falls under the Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency.

Though the seat is falling under the Howrah district, but area is practically within reach of this metropolis and has mixed population of voters, who have already made their mind either to pick a male candidate or a female to represent them in the assembly.

A look in the vote pattern in 2016 assembly poll showed that Mr Roy, who is seeking his fortune for the 3rd time in a row from his constituency, had massive support with 95,902 votes, compared to then AIFB candidate 60,558 in 2016. Then the BJP candidate had only poor 3rd with 14239 votes.

In 2011 as well, the TMC retained the seat after Mr Roy was declared the winner. He won against AIFB's Ahmed Kutubuddin Sk, who was defeated by a margin of 11,832 votes

However, In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress candidate Sajda Ahmed won from Uluberia Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 215359 votes by defeating Joy Banerjee from Bharatiya Janata Party.

Sajda Ahmed of Trinamool Congress secured 6,94,945 votes, Joy Banerjee of Bharatiya Janata Party secured 4,79,586 56, Maksuda Khatun Communist Party of India (Marxist) secured 81,314 and Shoma Ranisree Roy Indian National Congress secured 27,568 votes.

Veteran actress Papiya Adhikari, who recently joined BJP, is eyeing to convert her popularity into votes.

Papiya is overjoyed to get an election ticket from BJP. In the words of the BJP star candidate, “Challenge means change".

BJP star candidate alleged, "The Chief Minister said there will be industry here. There have been only two industries since 2011. Distilling wine and pistol industry. Pistols in everyone's pockets. A politics of terror is going on. No one wants to stay in the evening. "

However, all these allegations have been denied by the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Papiya first acted in Sonar Sansar in 1985, directed by Ratish De Sarkar. She is known for Amar Mayer Shapath (2003), Pratigna (1985) and Rose Crazy Rose (2010), Sotoroi September (17 September) (2019), Kintu Galpo Noy(2018) and Babli (2018).

She got the break through after playing the lead role in Soshane Kandche Lakkhi. She received best actress award from the Government of West Bengal for this performance

Papiya played the role of heroin as well as supporting part in number of Bengali films. She is also active in small screen and Bengali tele-serials like Gachkouto, Chokher Tara Tui and Gangster Ganga.
