PANCHKULA: The Panchkula health department has managed to vaccinate over 51,863 beneficiaries between the age group of 45 years and 60+.
The administration targeted to cover one lakh beneficiaries in March and also sought help from various NGOs and RWAs to spread awareness among the people living in the rural as well as the urban slums to come forward for the vaccination, besides multiple teams were appointed for door-to-door awareness. However, as many as 75,014 beneficiaries, including healthcare and frontline workers, have been given the shots so far.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Mukesh Kumar Ahuja held a meeting with the representatives of various religious, social and non-government organisations (NGOs) of the district in March and appealed them to actively contribute in the Covid-19 vaccination drive.
The DC said, “In view of the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the last few days, it is important to break the chain of coronavirus as well as ensure vaccination of people.”
He said though people are coming forward for the vaccination, there are still some sections of society like labourers and people living in the slums, who are still deprived of the same due to lack of awareness.
