Why arent we, america, giving the everybody one shot before giving anybody else a second?
My understanding is a few weeks after your first shot your immunity is about 90%, the 2nd shot is to bring it to 95.
Does it make more sense to get 100 million people to 90% than to get 20 million to 95%, 50 million to 90%, and 30 million nothing?
Genuine question btw, not some stupid anti vax thing.

Some countries did that.
For example the UK was giving out every shot they could not holding any in reserve for the 2nd shot. There were also mixing vaccines so you might get Moderna for your 1st dose and Pfizer for your 2nd.
The reason not to do that is the vaccine wasn't tested that way. While it probably confers some immunity even with the 1st dose it would be pretty horrible to find out that it doesn't and now you're back to square 1.

it makes sense to give the first dose to everyone first, absolutely
studies have shown the second dose gives far less immunity than the first
difference between 0-90% immunity and 90-95% immunity is obviously massive
I think this was due to testing being done with 2 doses, and uncertainty around how effective 1 dose would beBalanced Test Crew
