Here is how I got over my depression (work in progress)
1. Anti-depressants - if your depression is really bad, I would recommend you take these for around 3 months. These will help you from worrying about every little thing. No need to stay on these forever. I was on for 3 months, helped tremendously.
2. Therapist - you need to figure out the root cause of your depression. It could be insecurities, family trauma etc. Mine was anxiety from negative thinking, therapist helped me provide techniques to mitigate this.
3. Routine - before you get off your anti depressants, I recommend you have some sort of routine that helps you relieve you stress. For me it’s the gym, it can be walks, yoga, meditation etc. This is important to prevent the symptoms from coming back.
4. Family or friends or so - having someone to share your problems with may sound beta but it’s a huge relief and really helps
5. Eliminate negative things: people that put you down, surround your self with positive things. For ex: I have posters in my room with motivational ****.
My fav: Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.
6. Think of the bigger picture, a few bad days outta a month is not a big deal. You’ll make it brah
Hope this helps.

Dad has been on anti depressants for 30 years, no thanks. Can only imagine what would happen if he stopped taking them. Sister is on that sh!t now too.

Definitely believe admitting you have a problem and talking about it are two of the most important steps in ANY type of recovery. Good stuff bro, good luck

Drugs are a big risk. Some people undoubtedly need them, but I'd pursue other options first. I was once prescribed drugs (I think it was an SSRI), but I never took it. I'm glad because I was able to make significant progress without them.
I'm not sure if I actually have depression, but I definitely have some sort of trauma which has lead to self-loathing, anxiety, inability to take risks or grow as a person, and complete inability to trust anyone. I want to try therapy but thanks largely to my psychological problems I make too little money to afford therapy right now.

Lack of close family or friends is definitely my main problem. Not entirely sure how to amend that but I try making new buddies, even if it doesn't always go far. The family part is unfortunate. Quality points op, but I'd recommend a last resort approach towards medication. I have done it though but the couple pills I've tried have zero positive or negative effect, likely due to the situational-ness of it.

long-term close relationships do a lot, particularly healthy ones for men.
I wish I just hopped on Vitamin T as soon as I felt down. Prob the best antidepressant out there, which also forces you to seek out healthy masculine environments.
Low expectations help, too. Living as a proper adult does not actually foreclose all the dreams you think. Plenty of people can do more and live with constraints of the job market. Immigrants, for example. Accepting imperfection and low expectations helps a lot.
Unironically this:
