Farmers confront Food Corporation of India godown in Ambala

Farmers protest outside FCI godown in Ambala on Monday.
AMBALA: Hundreds of farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Haryana (Charuni) following the call of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) confronted the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown at Ambala Cantonment on Monday.
The protesting farmers demanded that the procurement process should be conducted as per previous ongoing system and believed that the government is “trying to oust the FCI from procurement procedure.”
The farmers started gathering outside the FCI godown and sat on protest in front of the gate. The farmers raised slogans against the government and later handed over memorandum of demand to concerned duty magistrate in the name of Union minister of consumer affairs.
During the protest, heavy police force was deputed by the Ambala district administration and everything remained peaceful.
The farmers demanded that they should not face inconvenience in the crop procurement, gunny bags be provided, text message systems be continued and the moisture content of wheat should be reduced from 14% to 12%.
BKU Haryana (Charuni) Ambala district president Malkiat Singh Sahibpura said, “Following call of SKM we protested in front of FCI office and gave a memorandum of our demand to the officials. The government wants to oust the FCI from the procurement system. We demand that the FCI procurement should continue as earlier.”
