Leaving downtown Miami? A deadly crash has closed all lanes on northbound I-95

A driver was killed early Monday when an SUV collided with a truck and caught fire on Interstate 95 in Miami, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

The fiery crash an the aftermath shut down all northbound lanes of I-95 at Northwest 62nd Street (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.) and sent traffic into gridlock. Drivers are being diverted off the highway. Express lanes also are shut down. Heavy delays are expected through the morning rush hour.

Troopers say the collision between the Buick SUV and the truck happened around 3:30 a.m. Both vehicles caught fire. A picture of the crash shows part of the SUV underneath the truck. The SUV driver was trapped and died in the burning vehicle, troopers said. The truck driver was not injured.

Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes, which include Northwest Seventh Avenue and 27th Avenue.

Southbound lanes on I-95 are not affected.

Prosecutors maintain Calvaruso was appointed head of the Pagliarelli district after the oldest boss of the Sicilian mafia, Settimo Mineo, 82, was sent to prison in December 2018. Hundreds of people who live near the reservoir have been told to evacuate, and Manatee County Acting Administrator Scott Hopes on Sunday told reporters models show a full breach of the walls could cause "as high as a 20-foot wall of water." DeSantis on Sunday said officials are "trying to prevent and respond to, if need be, a real catastrophic flood situation." The site is owned by HRK Holdings, and DeSantis said the focus right now "is ensuring the safety of the community," but his administration "is dedicated to full enforcement of any damages to our state's resources and holding ... HRK accountable for this event." Lorie Minallo lives just outside the evacuation area, and told USA Today little information is shared with local residents about leaks at the reservoir. The last one happened in 2011, and she wants to know "why is it still going on? Why hasn't anybody stepped up and done anything?
