Sunil Vayle has been booked after hundreds of people gathered at his daughter's wedding in Kalyan.
The wedding held on Saturday night was in gross violation of the
Covid-19 precautionary norms that allow only 50 people to gather for a wedding. The attendants were found without masks and not maintaining social distancing.
The sources said after the video of the wedding went viral, the local Mahatma Phule police have booked three people including Vayle, his relative Suresh Mahatre and Ramesh Singh (Manager of the hall) under IPC section 188 (Disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 and 270 (Negligent and malignant act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life) and under different sections of the Disaster Management Act.
Despite rising Covid-19 cases earlier too such incident was reported from Kalyan in which to0 hundreds of people participated in the wedding of a Shiv Sena leader held last month.
Meanwhile after videos of the grand wedding with a large crowd went viral on social media, citizens were seen demanding stricter action against Vayle. People were seen commenting on social media that “Is law is meant only for a common public”. Another person said, “Due to such politicians Covid-19 cases are increasing but due to these people normal public will have to suffer. Is CM Uddhav Thackeray going to take any action against their own party’s leader?.
It is to recall that due to rising coronavirus cases in Kalyan-Dombivli which is second-worst affected area in Mumbai Metropolitan Region after Mumbai, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has imposed several restrictions. The twin city on Saturday for the second day records the highest 1244 Covid-19 patients and 4 death taking the tally of patients 82,423 including 1266 death so far.
