Chennai, Apr 4 (UNI) In what looks like a climactic twist to a
whodunit, the ruling AIADMK on Sunday rounded off its long
drawn out campaign with an anti-DMK lethal shot that caught
even the non-committal and non-political people off balance
for a moment.
Today being the last day of campaigning for the April six
Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the State was shocked in
the early morning at the newspapers whose first four pages,
easily mistaken for today’s, were just motleys of various
news items with screaming headlines samples of which
run as follows:
‘During DMK rule, 14,523-acre lands usurped’; ‘Continuing
DMK rowdies’ atrocities…’; ‘None including my son will
come to politics: MK Stalin’; ‘Rs.176000000000 loss to
nation’; ‘A Raja’s accomplice Sadiq Baasha commits suicide’;
‘Sri Lankan Tamils die in droves, let down by Karunanidhi’;
‘DMK ward councillor held in Leelavathi murder case’;
‘KN Nehru held in land grabbing case.”
The middle of the fourth page has a clarion call to put
an end to the DMK, which has been set in striking white
font and size against the red background.
That it is a four-page jacket ad inserted by the ruling
party, spewing venom on the DMK, dawned on the readers,
not before navigating through the four pages to the front
page after a few seconds of browsing.
It is a collage of news items published in various newspapers
at various points of time since 1997.
