One person died and two other suffered serious injuries while handling explosives at Chakenahalli in Holenarasipur taluk, Karnataka on Sunday afternoon.
Sampath, 27, of Bettadahalli in Channarayapatna taluk died on the spot. Nataraj and Ravi Kumar have been admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru. It is not yet clear how the blast occurred.
Procure explosives
Sampath and Nataraj of Bettadahalli had come to Chakenahalli to procure explosives from a godown, which belonged to one Nagesh.
Mr. Nagesh had a licence to keep the explosives and blasting materials in his godown. It is suspected that the blast occurred as they were loading the explosives onto a two-wheeler.
Following the incident, the police, Fire and Emergency Services, and Revenue officials reached the spot. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of the blast. A bomb detection squad is also expected to reach the spot.
Inspector General of Police, Southern Range, Praveen Madhukar Pawar and other senior officers also visited the spot.
‘Thorough probe’
“A thorough investigation will reveal the cause of the blast. One person died in the incident and two others are undergoing treatment,” said K.R. Srinivas, Holenarasipur tahsildar.
Earlier in January this year, a blast occurred at a stone quarry point in Shivamogga, killing six persons. In a similar incident in Chickballapur in February six persons died.
