KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee has now realised that the Congress is the only alternative to oppose the BJP and she should join the party leaving her own, Pradesh Congress president Adhir Chowdhury on Sunday said.
The Congress, in the past few days have stepped up the criticisms against the Trinamool Congress and tried to corner them for harbouring coal and sand mafias.
“She has realised that there is none other than Congress to fight against the BJP. I know for a fact that she believes in theatricals. But if she has realised the fact that only Congress can fight the BJP, then she should withdraw Trinamool Congress candidates from Murshidabad,” said Chowdhury on Sunday.
A few days back Mamata Banerjee had however wrote to Congress president Sonia Gandhi apart from nine other key opposition leaders to seek a get together to decide on the strategy to take on the BJP after the polls are over. The letter, sent on the eve of her big fight with Suvendu Adhikari, minced no words to look for “a credible alternative to the people of India”.
“She (Mamata) should join the Congress and raise a slogan that Congress is the only alternative against the BJP,” Chowdhury said.
“There has not been any fresh communication from her end and we have been asked to go ahead with the full throttle attack on her,” said a senior Congress leader.
“Adhir Chowdhury should focus more on how the morcha is playing as a b team of the BJP by grabbing votes. If they really want to oppose the BJP they should have joined the TMC to take them head on. The unholy alliance with the Left Front and Abbas Siddiqui will not even get a handful of seats. He should actually talk to Mamata Banerjee to even retain his home turf,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
