UP cops serve warrant on jail superintendent for Mukhtar Ansari

Mukhtar Ansari
CHANDIGARH: The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday served court warrant to the Ropar central jail superintendent to ensure the presence of gangster turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari before the court of Special Magistrate (Gangster Act) in Mau on April13 in a case of procuring arms licence on the basis of forged documents.
Controversial BSP MLA Ansari, is lodged in Ropar jail in a criminal case registered against him in Punjab in 2019.
The Special Magistrate (Gangster Act), Mau, had on March 31 issued the warrant requiring the Ropar jail superintendent to produce Ansari before the court to face charges against him under the Gangster Act and the IPC.
‘Forged documents used for getting arms licences’
The Mau police had last month invoked the Gangster Act against Mukhtar Ansari and three others, including Israel Ansari, Salim and Anwar Shahzad, in an FIR registered in 2020 at Dakshin Tola police station of Mau for forgery, cheating by personation, dishonestly using forged documents as genuine and criminal conspiracy.
Later a chargesheet was submitted to the Mau court against them.
The Uttar Pradesh police had found during the investigation that Mau MLA Ansari had used his official letter pad for the issuance of arms licences and forged documents were used for getting arms licences. During the course of verification, police found out last year that even government officials were threatened for issuing arms licences without any objection.
No final decision on transfer
The Supreme Court has already on March 26 directed the Punjab government to hand over Ansari to the Uttar Pradesh police within two weeks. The Punjab jails department had thereafter sought legal advice on this. The Punjab government is yet to take the final decision.
