PUTA seeks Governor intervention to save University's dignity
PUTA blame VC for using derogatory language against Dean who resigned during mass resignation; new Dean Academics appointed

PATIALA: Two days after appointing Registrar of Punjabi University the Vice Chancellor appointed new Dean Academics ahead of Syndicate meeting of the university but the members of Punjabi university teachers association (PUTA) had objected not only to the appointment of both Registrar and Dean but also termed the language used in the VC’s official letter for appointing new Dean as highly humiliating, derogatory and vindictive.
PUTA members have been protesting from last seventeen days against the alleged autocratic behaviour of acting VC and over their demands including appointment of new regular VC. The PUTA members said that the incumbent acting VC who was an IAS officer was trying to create divide between the teachers in the university after the teachers had tendered mass resignations from their additional posts.
On Saturday PUTA members also wrote a letter to the Governor seeking his intervention to save the dignity of the university.
Nishan Singh Deol, PUTA President said, the letter to Governor reads, “The language used in the appointment letters by the officiating Vice Chancellor towards both the outgoing appointees is highly humiliating, derogatory and vindictive. This continued harassment by, and vindictive behaviour of the officiating VC is absolutely unacceptable and is condemned in strongest terms by the teaching fraternity of the University. The malafide attitude of the officiating VC is targeted against the teaching as well as non-teaching employees of the university and must be checked. Any orders that are derogatory, divisive, technically and legally non-tenable and violative of the University Calendar should be declared null and void and revoked with immediate effect”.
PUTA said that as many as 42 senior officials including dean academic affairs and registrar tendered their resignations from their additional posts on March 25 and 30 against the autocratic dealing of officiating VC besides being miffed over non-clearance of 105 promotion cases.
On Friday, PUTA members along with some non-teaching employee unions held a protest against the appointment of new registrar in the university besides burning the effigy of University’s Vice-Chancellor Ravneet Kaur. They also locked the main gate of the university for around four hours.
