3/5 Stars

WHAT IT'S ABOUT:

Buck, a big-hearted dog's blissful domestic life, is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sledge team - and later its leader - Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.

WHAT THE CRITICS THOUGHT:

"At a time where cynicism reigns, it's refreshing to call back to the simple thrills of venturing into the unknown - CGI pups at your side or not". - Clarisse Loughrey, Independent (UK)

"Harrison Ford does quietly powerful work as author Jack London's hero, but his computer-generated co-star looks weird". - Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times

"There is little here, amid the high-tech photorealistic animations, that would satisfy London's concept of 'wild'." - Jake Coyle, Associated Press

"The Call of the Wild is very much a mixed bag, veering wildly from dud to delight. But there are many worse ways to spend 100 minutes." - John Serba, Decider
