BJP leader Somaiya detained by police

Thane, Apr 3 (UNI) A day after the Maharashtra Housing Minister and NCP senior leader Jitendra Awhad exposed the case of medical equipment having gone missing from the Kausa Covid Centre, senior BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya on Saturday made an unsuccessful attempt to pay a visit to the centre but was detained by the police.
The minister had made a serious allegation that the Thane civic body had removed the equipment worth Rs 14 crore from the centre without the consent of the MHADA, which had installed them, thus leaving the centre unusable. He had sought action against the erring personnel.
Today, Mr Somaiya attempted to visit the centre for inspection but was stopped by the Kalwa police and detained for awhile.
Talking to the media, a visibly annoyed Mr Somaiya claimed that the (Uddhav) Thackerya government had indulged in several irregularities during the Covid pandemic.
"We will surely expose the Kausa Covid hospital racket," he warned.
